How I Rest

Today Beth and Brenda are adding their perspectives to Rest and how they refresh themselves spirit, mind and body! Enjoy this peek into how they rest. 🙂
What does rest mean to you?
What gives you rest?
When I think of rest, I think of a renewal, refreshing and restoration for our spirit, mind and body. The Scripture comes to mind where Jesus said, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to Me. Get away with Me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with Me and work with Me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace…” {‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬ MSG} In the AMP version, it says He will “ease and relieve and refresh [our] souls.”
I always find rest in coming to Him. Rolling my cares on Him, opening my hands and heart to Him, and getting quiet before Him. It’s also restful to literally rest – whether it’s a power nap or to get a full night’s sleep. Reading, playing piano, singing, writing, getting a massage… All of these activities are restful. However, I believe that true, deep rest comes ultimately from surrender and trust in Him. Rest begins when we let go of the weight and the care and lay it down at His feet.
What is restful to me?
It’s restful to me to spend quality time with those whom I have my closest relationships with. So of course, I find my greatest rest in Him. Matthew 11:28 says, “Come…and I will give you rest.”  We can all find our greatest source of rest in Him.
Then there are my immediate family members. I value and prize time spent with them. Family vacations are so very dear to me, because I find rest and solace being with my family playing, laughing and just being in their presence, enjoying those  who are most precious to me. It is also restful when I can sit and read anything in the leisure of my favorite chair or on the beach, staring out into the ocean and enjoying the wonders of His creation.
