How to Receive Anything

I’ve heard it said, the only thing that limits God is our capacity to receive from Him.
So if we want to get more from Him, we have to learn to be receivers. We must expand our capacity to receive from Him.
Today I’m going to share an overview of one of my favorite sermon series, called How to Receive Anything, by Keith Moore (you can download it for free here)
So the first step to receiving… is to find out His will.
1. Know the will of God.
God’s Word is His will, and it’s the foundation for our faith. We CAN know the will of God – it’s not a huge mystery! But, we’re not ready to receive or even ask anything until we know His will.
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” {‭1 John‬ ‭5:14-15‬ ‭NIV‬‬}
2. Ask.
“Simply saying Lord, I’m ASKING you for….”
Sometimes we jump so quickly into praising and thanking Him for something, but did we even ask? It shows a heart of dependence on Him. Also, James 4:3 says sometimes we have not, because we ask not. We mustn’t skip this step!
3. Seek.
If you truly believe He heard you when you asked, you’ll start looking for it.
““Keep on asking and it will be given you; keep on seeking and you will find; keep on knocking [reverently] and [the door] will be opened to you. For everyone who keeps on asking receives; and he who keeps on seeking finds; and to him who keeps on knocking, [the door] will be opened. {‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:7-8‬ ‭AMP‬‬}
4. Knock.
You asked and sought and sought and arrived at a door, so now it’s time to knock! This is when you start digging deeper, and checking out what has been found.
5. Stand.
The enemy will always try to keep you from receiving – so you have to KEEP STANDING… Be persistent like the person’s friend in Luke 11:5 who wouldn’t quit knocking in the middle of the night. Persistence and consistency – KEEP ON asking, seeking, knocking. Having done all, to stand (Eph. 6:13)
Looking back, I can see in my college journey how the Lord led me through these steps. I didn’t have this helpful sermon series to bring light to what I was doing, but looking back I can see the progression.
First, I needed to discern should I even go to college? I had settled in my heart that the will of God was indeed to go. But then, what should I study? Where should I go? So I asked the Lord to show me. I started seeking, researching colleges and scholarships. After I narrowed down a few options, I start knocking – applying, auditioning, and visiting colleges. When I set foot on Texas Woman’s University campus, I knew that was the school for me. But even then, there were moments in my college career that I wondered if I would be able to graduate with my degree – I fought doubt and discouragement, but the Lord laid Phil. 1:6 on my heart. I clung to His promise that the work He started in me He was faithful to complete. And He was!! I graduated debt-free and summa cum laude!
What is the work God is doing in your life, sweet one?
What do you need to receive?
Find out His will, ask Him for it, Seek and Knock and Stand for it! He IS Faithful!
