The Whole You – in Proverbs 31

Lately as I thumb through my Bible, I’m noticing things I never noticed before – such as how scriptures can be viewed in light of The Whole You. For instance, because God has fashioned us to be a three-part being, as we look at Proverbs 31, we can see our spirit, mind and body specifically represented in so many of these amazing scriptures. Also, I’m noticing evermore how interrelated our three parts are! Let’s take a look at Proverbs 31:10-31 in light of this revelation.
For example, in verse 17 (AMP), it says, “She girds herself with strength [spiritual, mental, and physical fitness for her God-given task] and makes her arms strong and firm.”  Here the Amplified Bible refers to how we can strengthen all the parts of our being until we are wholly “girded with strength.” When we are strengthened in one part of our being, it inspires and encourages us in the other two parts, and we become stronger as a whole. As a result, we are girded up with this newfound strength in our whole being and begin to soar in every area of our lives.
A perfect example in my own life was when I became on fire for the Lord. I got so excited about what God was showing me in the Word and as my spirit was strengthened, my mind was being renewed in the Word, I also noticed a new energy taking over every fiber of my physical body. It was a turning point for me and effected all three parts of my being.
Another perfect example is found in Proverbs 31:26:
“She opens her mouth in skillful and godly Wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness [giving counsel and instruction].” As we grow spiritually, then wisdom begins to flow from us and it affects our mind, will and our emotions. As it says in 1 Peter 3:1 When those around us observe the pure and modest way in which we conduct ourselves…” When we grow spiritually, those around us can’t help but see the changes. Often times, we don’t even look like the same person. We are changed from the inside out!
Lastly, in the final verse (v. 31) of Proverbs 31, we see the culmination of the spirit, mind, and body operating as a finely tuned instrument of God because the fruit is so evident in her life: “Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates [of the city]!” As our spirit, mind, and body comes into full alignment with one another and wholeness, we can see the fruit in our lives in full operation. Our spirit, mind and body get in tune with the perfect will of God, and the results are seen in every are of our lives.
I believe that as we focus on one area (spirit/mind/body), the other areas will also start producing new and abundant fruit effortlessly. Be encouraged, ladies, that this is indeed a step-by-step, day-by-day, journey that we are all on as we continue to be transformed into His likeness.
