Vision in the Waiting

Sisters, we are so excited to have our sweet friend Andrea Howey on the blog today to encourage you with her ever-timely words!! We know this will reinvigorate you with the strength you need to maintain your vision in the waiting seasons…

xo!

“The vision will still happen at the appointed time. It hurries toward its goal. It won’t be a lie. If it’s delayed, wait for it. It will certainly happen. It won’t be late.” {Habakkuk 2:3, MSG}

Don’t give up because you think the vision in your heart is taking too long come to pass. Though it seems like it’s taking for-ev-er, wait for it. It’s coming! God doesn’t play games with you and He doesn’t change His mind or mislead you. He is not careless or without purpose in His timing.

God gives us vision to point toward what’s coming; it’s a witness in our spirit of the dreams, promises, purpose, and calling He has stirred within us. But there is a season of waiting that usually comes between the time you receive the vision and the time it comes to pass.

Waiting is described as “the action of staying where one is or delaying action until a particular time.” Isn’t it interesting that waiting is described as an action? Waiting is not inactivity, as some might think. Even when there appears to be no progress in the natural (what we can see), in the spirit (behind the scenes) God is at work on your behalf. He is ushering forward the vision for your life and it hurries toward its goal. His instruction is to wait and be watching and ready for it.

Waiting on the Lord is a beautiful and powerful stance of trust, faith, and hope-filled expectation. It’s expecting and believing that the vision God put in your heart – dreams, hopes, calling, ideas – will come to pass, and it’s giving room and time for the vision to grow and develop within you.

Waiting is not passive. It’s not taking a seat on the sidelines. Sometimes waiting means doing some practical things in your heart and life, knowing that when He propels you into the vision for your life, you’ll be strong, capable, mature, and wise in stewarding over the things He has called you to do. The hard times we go through aren’t meant as punishment or as a way of denying you the joy of walking out those dreams. God uses seasons of waiting as times of testing, training, and endurance-building. Maybe there are some practical things that need to develop in you… discipline, endurance, patience, resolve, kindness, forgiveness, and courage. It is God’s goodness toward you that He allows there to be a period of time in which He does a work in and through you so you’ll be prepared and poised to walk in confidence when God begins to bring your vision to life.

Waiting is a discipline and a sign of maturity and trust. Let’s demonstrate that we trust Him with our life, our vision, our dreams, and let’s give Him room to work in us. He wants to know that He can trust you to obey even when it doesn’t seem to make sense. When He knows He can trust you to be patient, to use wisdom, to listen for His voice and follow His lead rather than blazing carelessly ahead, to be committed to wait on Him to open the right doors, He will move and do things you could never orchestrate on your own. He will open doors and move you into the right place at the right time, for your good, for the good of others, and for His glory.

He will show Himself faithful to you in seasons of waiting. He doesn’t go off and leave you alone on the backside of the desert. He is close and He is cheering you on, knowing that the vision is meant for an appointed time (probably sooner than you may realize)! I know you have a story brewing, a dream building, a hope awakening, something is stirring in your life and heart… I encourage you to watch and wait for His word to “Go!” “Do!” “Now!” Keep your eyes and ears open and alert… wait for it… waaaait for ittttt… and before you know it, suddenly the answer will come. The breakthrough will happen. The dream will come to life. The relationship will flourish. The provision will become apparent. The miracle will burst forth. The vision becomes reality!

He won’t be a single day late in bringing the fullness of His plan and purpose to life in your life. You’ve got a sure thing in Him. Not one of His promises to you will ever fail. And when He moves in your life, it’s so much more wonderful than you could even imagine.

I know it can be easy to wonder when you don’t see anything happening or changing in your life, and maybe even now, you wonder if you waited too long and missed your window of opportunity to do what God has put on your heart to do. Even if that were true, God can redirect and get you right on course.

My friends, God wants you to walk in the fullness of your purpose and destiny even more than you do! Keep in step with Him and you don’t have to worry that you’ll “miss it.” Ask Him to help you to discern and recognize when it’s time to move forward. If He is saying, “Now is the time!” then you have full assurance you can move forward with the Spirit of God by your side and go after that vision He has stirred up in your heart. He will help you and show you the way to go and what to do.

If you are still waiting, still believing God for something that sounds completely unlikely, impossible, way-bigger-than-you, or maybe even something you can’t fully articulate, keep praying, keep believing, keep expecting! When God gives you a vision that lines up with the Word and causes your spirit to ignite with Kingdom purpose, it’s so worth waiting and staying the course to see those promises fulfilled in His timing. It may not happen in the timing you expect, but He promises that it won’t be a single day late. Truly, the best is yet to come!

xoxo,
Andrea
